Book n' Buddies - Marge Geiger & Diane Vanderpoel
It’s that time again that we must say adieu. The books chosen for this year were very well
received. We were introduced to an art
theft in 1944 by Jojo Moyes’ novel The Girl I Left Behind.
We then read a contemporary novel by Donna Tartt entitled The
Goldfinch which began with an explosion and subsequent art theft at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art and demonstrated the culture changes we are
experiencing in business and beyond.
Followed by another Jojo Moyes’ novel entitled After You ,
a sequel to Me Before You 2016
The next title is Boys in a Boat by Daniel James
Brown, the story of our U.S. Olympians who won the gold medal during Hitler’s
Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult was our next choice. The story of a
young Amish girl pregnant, unmarried, delivers her child and the child is found
dead. She denies all and it becomes a newsworthy event in Amish country.
A glimpse into a culture of tradition and values. A good read.
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah set in France
during WWII; the French Resistance and two sisters who defied all odds.
The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris by Jenny Colgan - A beautifully written story about lovelost and found. Characters are both believable
and funny, while the Parisian setting makes this story practically
